Eyebrow Tattoo in Canmore: Microblading vs. Single Needle Machine Hairstroke Nano Brow Tattoo

When it comes to achieving perfectly defined and natural-looking eyebrows, two popular options you might encounter are microblading and the single needle machine hairstroke nano brow tattoo. Both of these techniques can offer remarkable results, but they differ in their approach and outcomes. In this article, we'll explore the nuances of each method to help you understand the difference.

Microblading in Canmore:

Microblading gained immense popularity in recent years due to its ability to create finely detailed, hair-like strokes that mimic the appearance of real eyebrows. This technique involves a manual process using a handheld tool with a group of micro needles. The technician carefully etches as small channel into the skin (like a per cut) to replicate the appearance of individual hairs, the design follows the natural direction that brows grow in. This precision allows for a more customized and realistic look, which is especially beneficial for those with sparse or uneven eyebrows. Microblading can be suitable for those with dry or thick skin. In order to better cater to all skin types and create a wider array of customized brow designs Tanya made the switch to solely offer Nano Brow Tattoo instead of Microblading in 2019.

Single Needle Machine Hairstroke Nano Brow Tattoo in Canmore:

The single needle machine hairstroke nano brow tattoo is the preferred option for achieving stunning eyebrows at our studio. This technique utilizes a tattoo machine equipped with a single, ultra-fine needle to implant pigment into the skin via tiny punctures that do not fully open the surface of the skin. The result is a natural-looking set of eyebrows with defined hairstrokes & / or powder shading that give the illusion of real hair & density. The single needle nano brow technique is a more versatile paintbrush for the artist to create unique custom brow designs specific to each individuals skin requirements & design preferences. It is possible to combine individual hair strokes with the selective placement of shading aka Powder Brows which can build up required density to blend with natural hair patches or mimic clusters of natural growth. Microblading is limited to only hair strokes and if those individual lines are implanted too close to each other they can heal as a blur because too much skin was opened in an attempt to replicate density whereas Nano Brow Tattoo creates minimal skin trauma and the finite details hold true to their placement during the simple aftercare healing.

Brow Tattoo Aftercare, Healing & On Going Maintenance:

Brow Tattoo can often be referred to as a form of Permanent Make Up but also sometimes it’s thought of as Semi-Permanent, the term ‘permanent’ can be a little confusing since touch ups and *annual maintenance is common with brow tattoo. All tattoo pigment will lose it’s original true hue over time as you may notice in your body tattoos; perhaps the colors are no longer as vibrant or the blacks are no longer as deep but the image is still readable and so we don’t typically seek touch ups on body tattoos. Brow Tattoos will lose their true hue of the browns and blonde tones too over time but because we’re chasing the illusion of ‘real’ brows we seek touch ups and color boosts to add back in those warm hues or deeper browns. Given that seeing those true tones in our brow tattoo is crucial for realism it’s important that as artists we implant pigment that heals soft and translucent and allows for layering over time; if the pigments saturation in the skin is high and you inevitably lose the original hues and vibrancy there isn’t actually much space to layer over those lost tones. For this reason Tanya prefers to work with soft saturation (think watercolour) pigment formulations so that when the realism tones fade out the residual details are translucent enough to be able to layer over a color boost. For some this may be at 12-18 months after the initial 2-3 sessions and every 12-18 months thereafter. Some will go much longer before booking a color boost but there does come a time when you may need to do two sessions 8 weeks apart again (as you did initially) if the base layer of residual pigment is quite faded (this differs for everyone). In conclusion, brow tattoo is considered permanent because technically the pigment does not leave your skin (unless professionally removed) but can also be referred to as semi permanent because the cosmetic affect of details soften over time and may no longer serve to provide the illusion of more ‘brow’. Tanya does not like to refer to Brow Tattoo as ‘permanent make up’ because pigment that is healed within the skin does not provide the same impact as make up on the skin. For occasions or events it’s is normal to feel the need to glam up your brows with makeup even if you have brow tattoo, we’re aiming to simplify your daily brow routine. When there is client pressure to continuously add more saturation to mimic a make up application the results are heavy brow details and minimal scope for boosting underlying hues as they fade leaving the client with brows in a dull tone yet still heavily saturated - this is not desirable and hence why Tanya prefers a soft, delicate, light handed approach that gives you the illusion of more brow without the results being harsh and obvious.
