Lip Threading
I have lip threading listed as a service but it’s not something I necessarily promote. I do not want to pray into insecurities. A client may be in for brows and say ‘should I do my lip too’ my response is always ‘I can if you’d like me to, it’s a little more sensitive than brows but quick’ I would never hint that they’d benefit from it or out right ask ‘do you want that lip hair taken too!?’
I ask clients to dome their lip skin with their tongue behind their lip, this makes the hairs pop up and I barely touch the skin with the thread, no real pressure through the twist onto the skin. I run the twist along the area and grab any hairs in its path. Once I’ve got all I can in this domed areas I tell the client to relax their tongue and then you may see a few hairs still standing that probably laid flat when the skin was lifted.
Being mindful of not rolling your twist over the delicate lip skin, this is more prone to being ‘cut’ with the thread. Also be mindful of pulling hairs that originate in the nostril, these hurt a lot when pulled! For some clients extending the area you thread to just out beyond the corners of the mouth is beneficial as often there is a more dense patch of peach fuzz right in the dimple area of the cheek/mouth.
Another service I offer is Full Face Threading. Typically we take peach fuzz from along the jawline, chin, up toward the earlobe, across the cheeks and maybe the hairline if it descends over the forehead. I Include brow shaping and lip hair removal in full face threading & always clarify with clients if there's any particular areas they want me to focus on. I'll have the clients stretch the skin along their jaw or puff out their cheek if it feels necessary - just think whether you need the skin taught or domed to get at the hairs and be sure to to not be aggrevating the skin if it's not stretched.
